 INTRODUCTION

• The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is a statutory body set up by the

Government of India of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Act, 1997. It is the regulator
of the telecommunications sector in India.
• The Department of Telecommunications, abbreviated to DoT, is a department of the Ministry
of Communications of the executive branch of the Government of India.
• In India, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) conducts auctions of licenses
for electromagnetic spectrum. India was among the early adopters of spectrum auctions
beginning auctions in 1994.

• As per the reports the Jio has been the major acquirer of the spectrum, following up the Airtel and Vodafone idea.
• As per the TRAI, The spectrum are adaptable to the 5G networks which will benefit the telecom industry as whole
and also in the development of the country
• The telecom industry is a developing sector which is contributing 8% towards the total economy and 35% towards
the GDP. It is expected to grow more in upcoming years by 30%
• Hence the Telecom industry is a major developing service sector industry.
