Objective
Project analysis slide 2
To Design a Power Distribution Board using Reliable Semiconductors and Fuses
with following features:

1. SMOOTH 5V & 12V DC SUPPLY

2. SHORT CIRCUIT PROTECTION
3. REVERSE CURRENT PROTECTION
Introduction

Project analysis slideSMOOTH

2 5V & 12V DC SUPPLY
The most important concept before designing of circuit is the concept of regulated ICs

General voltage regulator ICs are 78xx where xx represent the output voltage capability of the IC Like IC 7812 will give 12v
regulated supply

IC 7805 will give 5v regulated supply similarly IC 7806, IC 7809 … and so on

OUR REQUIREMENT IS 5V AND 12 V power supply because mostly drones electronic part needed these supply as shown
in table below
COMPONENTS POWER REQUIREMENT

COMPONENTS
VOLTAGE(VOLTS) CURRENT(AMP) COMMENTS

ESCs <14V 32.5A *4 Per motor

FC 5V ~0.5A Minor load on it

GCU 8-18V 1.5A  *3 Per motor

LED AAA Battery,1.5V 1A  *2 Self powered

    ARDUINO NANO 7-12V 0.5-1A

    RESBERRY PI 4B 5V 2-3A
Using a voltage regulator

Project analysis slide 2

A Voltage regulator will convert your battery voltage down to a clean and constant 5V
to supply power to your flight controller.

Powering the flight controller via an individual BEC is an effective method since 5V
voltage regulators are tiny and cheap devices.

we will need to connect the inputs of the voltage regulator to the same circuit as your
battery voltage, and the outputs will connect to the 5V, and ground inputs on your
flight controller.
Using a PDB

Project analysis
some power distribution slide
boards include 2
a built in voltage regulator which is very convenient when building your drone. This
allows you to solder your ESC power leads and battery connector directly to the board for a neat installation.

The board will include some extra electronic components to have a section that will output a constant 5V output, and many
also include an extra 12V output.

You can then use the 5V output to power your flight controller, and the extra 12V output can be used to power your FPV
equipment, or LED lights etc..

Some PDB units also have a switch that let you turn the regulator on and off which is designed to connect your LED’s lights
SHORT CIRCUIT PROTECTION

Project analysis slide

Short circuit protection 2
is protection against excessive currents or current
beyond the acceptable current rating of equipment and it operates
instantly. As soon as an overcurrent is detected, the device trips and breaks
the circuit.
REVERSE CURRENT PROTECTION AND RECOVERY

Project analysis slide 2

When voltage at output of the system is greater than input,
current flows from output to input through the circuit. This
current is known as reverse current. It increases power
dissipation in circuit. This may damage internal circuitry, power
supply circuitry, cables and connectors. The simplest protection
against reverse current is a diode in series with the supply.

When battery is at connected with right polarity, diode will turn

ON and there will be normal circuit operation. When battery is
connected with reverse polarity, there is not sufficient forward
voltage to turn ON diode. In this case, diode acts as open circuit
which breaks circuit path. This lead to protection of load from
reverse current.
