Understanding Angles and Their Types

Here is a suggested design for an anti-piracy mobile using the given materials: - Cut out shapes from construction paper that represent things related to piracy prevention such as "No" symbols, X marks, life preservers, boats, etc. - Attach the shapes to pieces of yarn so they can hang down and move freely. You may cut multiple shapes from one piece of construction paper. - Tie the ends of the yarn pieces together at the top to form a circular shape. Use a heavier piece of yarn or string to tie them together and act as the hanger. - Attach the hanger to a stationary object above so the mobile can spin and move with air currents.

ANGLES

Mathematics 4
What is an angle?
•In geometry, an angle can be defined as the
figure formed by two rays meeting at a
common end point.
•An angle is represented by the symbol ∠.
Here, the angle below is ∠AOB.
•Angles are measured in degrees, using a
protractor.
PARTS OF AN
ANGLE
•Arms: The two rays joining to form an
angle are called arms of an angle. Here,
OA and OB are the arms of the ∠AOB.
•Vertex: The common end point at which
the two rays meet to form an angle is
called the vertex. Here, the point O is the
vertex of ∠AOB.
TYPES OF
ANGLES
1. An acute angle is an angle
measuring between 0 and 90 degrees.
2. A right angle is an angle measuring 90 degrees. Two
lines or line segments that meet at a right angle are said
to be perpendicular.
3. An obtuse angle is an angle measuring
between 90 and 180 degrees.
We can find angles in various things around
us, such as in a pair of scissors, a hockey
stick, a chair.
PROTRACTOR
Directions: Using a protractor, draw an angle with
the given measurement. Then classify each
according to its degree measure.

1. ∠BAN = 30°
2. ∠POT = 45°
Directions: Using a protractor, draw an angle with
the given measurement. Then classify each
according to its degree measure.

3. ∠SUN = 100°
4. ∠CAN = 125°
5. ∠FAN = 165°
Directions: Draw each kind of angle.
Indicate the measurement of each
angle.
1. Acute angle
2. Obtuse Angle
3. Right Angle
4. Straight Angle

RATIO
Mathematics 5
RATIO
• A ratio is a comparison of two quantities using division. A
ratio can be written in word form, fraction form (a/b), or in
colon form (a:b).
• The ratio a:b is read as “a to b” or “a is to b” (word form).
• When forming a ratio, it is important to consider the order of
two numbers.
• Two ratios are equal if their lowest terms are equal. To find
the lowest term of a ratio, we divide the numbers in the ratio
by their greatest common factor.
There are 6 mangoes and 7
apples
•6 – first term
•7 apples – second term
•6:7 – (colon form)
•6/7 – (fraction form)
•6 to 7 or 6 is to 7 (word form)
There are 10 flowers and 15
leaves
• 10 flowers – first term
• 15 leaves – second term
• The gcf of 10 and 15 is 5.
Simplify:
• 2:3 – (colon form)
• 2/3 – (fraction form)
• 2 to 3 or 2 is to 3 – (word form)
22:33
• 22 – first term
• 33 – second term
• The gcf of 22 and 33 is 11.
Simplify:
• 2:3 – (colon form)
• 2/3 – (fraction form)
• 2 to 3 or 2 is to 3 – (word form)
