Flanges and ring seals

API recognises two types of flanges

– API 6B flange 2000 - 5000 psi

– API 6BX flange 5000 - 20000 psi

Type 6B flanges
6B flanges are of the ring joint type and are
not designed to make up face to face - the
bolting force acts to compress the gasket.
6B flanges use type R gaskets
ROVAL, ROCTAGONAL, RX

Type 6BX flanges
6BX flanges are designed for face to face
make up - the bolting force acts on the
flange itself.
6BX flanges use type BX gaskets.
