12” Pump Outputs

TRIPLEX PUMP 12 “ STROKE

6.5” 6.52
x 3 = .123 bbls/stroke
1029.4

If the pump had a volumetric efficiency of 95%

.123 x .95 = .117 bbls/stroke

DUPLEX PUMP 12” STROKE

Forward stroke 6.52 x 2 = .082 bbls/stroke
6.5” 1029.4
Backward stroke 6.52 - 22 x 2 = .0743 bbls/stroke
1029.4
.082 + .0743 = .1563 bbls/stroke

If the pump had a volumetric efficiency of 95%

.1563 x .95 = .148 bbls/stroke

Introduction to Well Control

Strokes & Time

To calculate the number of strokes required to circulate
mud round the well you divide volume by pump output

Drillstring Volume = 153.6 bbls divided by .117 bbl/stk. = 1313 strokes

Annular Volume = 1183.7 bbls divided by .117 bbl/stk. = 10117 strokes

To calculate the time required to circulate mud round

the well divide strokes by pump speed

If pump speed was 80 spm then it would take:

1313
= 17 minutes to circulate surface to bit
80
10117 = 127 minutes to circulate bottoms up
80

Total well circulation time would be: 17 + 127 = 144 minutes

Annular Velocity

Pump Output bbls/min = Pump Output bbls/stk x Pump Speed stks/min
