Once the contraceptive implants is located on the woman's upper arm, it begins its work by
preventing the ovaries from producing eggs with a hormone called progestogen that the implant
releases into the woman's body. It also thickens the fluid in the cervix, trapping sperm and
preventing it from passing through.
