PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION
Whenever a complaint is received from the field regarding the bearing
failures the following needs to be ascertained.
Type of bearing failed.
Application in which the bearing was running.
Ask for all the load details/operation parameters.
Ask for details regarding the kind of lubrication employed, lubricant
used, method of lubrication, lubricant details etc.
Perform the load calculations and check for the L10 life and the modified
life of the bearing based on the parameters given.
Cross check the results achieved with the actual performance of the
bearing. If the failure of the bearing is premature carry out the failure
analysis.
