1) Research on Gas Tungsten Arc Welding of Stainless Steel – An
Overview D. Devakumar, D. B Jabaraj Page: 1612-1618

•Research objectives- In this paper, an attempt

is made to review and consolidate the important
research works done on GTAW of stainless
steel in the past, by various researchers.
•Research approach- This paper is aimed at, to
give a brief idea about the research works done
in the past, on TIG welding of stainless steel by
various researchers, by highlighting the
important conclusions and results arrived at

Conclusion- The hardness of weld

metal is lower than that of base

metal by all the joints and it is also
observed that the hardness values
of weld metals increase with
welding speed increase.
2) Plasma Arc Welding  The research objectives- This paper is literature
review of various theoretical and experimental
(PAW) – A Literature studies by different researchers over the years.

Review Dr. M. Chithirai research approach-The various process parameters

that were investigated upon included weld width,
heat affected zone, Plasma gas flow rate, Shield Gas
Pon Selvan1 , Nethri flow rate, Arc and melting efficiencies, torch height,
Welding voltage and current. Studies are being
Rammohan2 an , Nethri made in order to extend the application of PAW on
several nonmetallic materials in the near future.
Rammohan2 and  Conclusions-PAW has been adopted in the field of
aviation and electronics due to its easy setup and
Sampath S S3 Page: comparatively cheaper setup costs to LBW and
Electron Beam Welding. The keyhole mode of PAW

181-186 is widely used in industries due the deep penetration

characteristics and also the ability to impart superior
quality to the weld joint than the base metal.
3) The Effect of Flux Research objectives-This project is study about the effect of FCAW
process on different parameters by using robotic welding with the variables

Core Arc Welding in welding current, speed and arc voltage. The effects are on welding
penetration, microstructural and hardness measurement.

(FCAW) processes
on different Research approach- The effect will be studied and measured on the
parameters Syarul penetration, microstructure and hardness for all specimens after FCAW
process.
Asraf Mohamata*,
Izatul Aini Ibrahima,
Conclusion - The increased value of penetration by increasing the value of
Amalina Amira, welding current. Welding current is a factor that influences the penetration.
Arc voltage and welding speed also a factor that can influence the
Abdul Ghaliba penetration.

The hardness values for the weld metal are higher if the base metals are
mild steel. The hardness will decrease when the arc voltage and welding
current are increase because of the change of the sizes grain boundary of
microstructure.
4) A REVIEW Research objective- The effect of different process parameters such as
PAPER ON GAS welding current, voltage, gas flow rate, welding speed and gas pressure on
mechanical properties like tensile strength and percentage of elongation of
METAL ARC GMAW welded joints.

Another study found that when the welding current voltage, GFR
increases, the tensile strength decreases, but when welding speed increases
the tensile strength also increases. In the case of elongation is also the same
to tensile strength.
5) Effects of shield Research approach- The study has compared the effects of
shielded metal arc welding process on some mechanical
metal arc welding properties of duplex stainless steel. The samples were welded
and given post weld heat treatment.

steel 1 Ibrahim
Tanimu, 2Yawas
D. S. and 2Aku S. Conclusion -The tensile test, impact test and the hardness test shows that
welding has a negative effect on the mechanical properties of this alloy

Y. Page: 190-201 while the heat treatment improved some of the mechanical properties like
ductility and impact energy.
The duplex stainless steel can be welded successfully using shielded metal
arc depending on the application or service life which the material will be
subjected to.

Review based on Research Papers:

Effects of SMAW on mechanical properties of duplex stainless steel. It was

established that duplex stainless steel can be weld successfully using SMAW.
Effect of different process parameters such as welding current, voltage, gas
flow rate, welding speed & gas pressure on mechanical properties like tensile
strength & percentage of elongation of GMAW welded joints.
Optimization was done to find optimum welding conditions to maximize
tensile strength & percentage elongation of welded joints.
It is found that when the welding current, voltage, gas flow rate increased, the
tensile strength decreases, but when welding speed increases, the tensile
strength also increases. In the case of elongation is also same to tensile
strength. This study presented the optimization of GMAW parameters of mild
steel.
