Section Two –Informative Writing

This section is compulsory, and you will respond


based on a given scenario. You may be instructed
to write a letter of complaint, notice, email,
article or report. There is no word limit. This
section is worth 30 marks.
What is an Email ?

An Email is short for ‘electronic mail‘. Similar to


a letter, it is sent via the internet to a recipient. An
email address is required to receive email, and
that address is unique to the user.
Elements of an Email
• From: (Who is sending the email- John@yahoo.com)
• To: (Who you are sending the email to- live@gmail.com)
• Cc: (Who you want to send a copy of the email to-
mark@live.com)
• Bcc: (You add someone you want to sent the email to but you do
not want everyone to see who this person is)
• Subject: (What the email is about- Requesting an English Class)
• The body of the email
Cc means carbon copy and Bcc means blind
carbon copy. For emailing, you use Cc when you
want to copy others publicly, and Bcc when you
want to do it privately. Any recipients on the Bcc
line of an email are not visible to others on the
email.
From: the email address of the person sending it

To : the email address of the person/person receiving it

Subject : the title ( the reason why you’re sending an email )

Salutation – the initial greeting


Format for
Email The body – the content goes here ( what you need to communicate )

The close – respectfully, sincerely

The signature – sender’s name
