Specific objectives
At the end of the session, the student will be able to:
• briefly explain on standardized and non standardized tests
• classify achievement tests
• identify evaluation tools for different domains
TYPES OF EVALUATION TOOLS/ TESTS
• Standardized tests
• Non standardized tests
Standardized tests
• A test that is administered and scored in a consistent manner
• All test takers are given same questions to answer
• They are allowed same amount of time to attempt questions
• The test is administered under controlled environmental
conditions
• Instructions are same for all students
• Marking of answers follow a predetermined criteria
• Interpretation of the obtained marks is same for all students
Standardized tests- characteristics
• Include specified procedures for administration and scoring
• Test items are derived from experiments or observations rather
than from theory
• Have established format and set of materials
• Present the same tasks under identical controlled conditions for
all test takers
• Provide table of norms to which the scores of test takers can be
compared in order to ascertain their relative standing

• Aptitude tests
• Personality tests
Non-standardized tests

examinees’s attainment at a given point of time”
• No uniformity in evaluation
• Cannot be considered reliable
• Not administered under controlled conditions
• Does not provide standard interpretation techniques
• Eg: interview, group discussion, viva-voce, all teacher made tests
Classification of achievement test
