Assignment
Introduction - Weather
Weather : The condition of atmosphere at a given time and place.

Role of Weather : It affects our lives (Lifestyle) in following ways.

1.Food 2.Clothing 3.Transportation 4. Housing

Factors Influencing Weather :

1. Atmospheric Pressure

2. Temperature of air Meteorologist :

3. Humidity of air
A person who studies about weather.

4. Precipitation

5. Cloudiness

6. Wind and breeze

Climate - Terminology
Latitude : Imaginary circles running parallel to equator

Altitude : The height of the place from sea level

Humidity : The amount of water vapour in air

Ocean Currents : The warm and cold currents (Tides) of the oceans

Equator : Imaginary circle at the center of earth located at 0 degrees

Poles : Two Imaginary Circles at the both ends of earth separated by 90 degrees.
• Pole lying on north side of equator is North Pole.
• Pole lying on south side of equator is South Pole.
Introduction - Climate
Climate : Average weather condition of a place over a long period of time.

Role of climate : Affects lifestyle of people in larger area like in small countries or parts of larger countries

Monrovia (Liberia) Alaska (USA) Rajasthan(India) Saopaulo(Brazil)

Rainy Snow Desert Temperate

Factors influencing climate

Latitude (Distance from the equator)

Altitude (Height from the sea level)

Direction of the wind

Climatologist :
A person who studies about climate .
Distance from the sea

Humidity

Ocean currents
How to Tell Climate of Place

Higher the altitude of the place above the

sea level cooler is the place.
Example – Hill station Yercaud

As places move away from equator toward north

they become cooler and are coolest at north pole.

Places nearer to equator are hotter

Example -Africa

As places move away from equator toward south

they become cooler and are coolest at south pole

Nearer the distance of the place to

sea/oceans higher the humidity.
Climate in Geographical Zones

Antarctica Cold
