A direct speech is
the exact word or
words of the
speaker.
 It uses
quotation
marks. (“ ”)
 Example:
"Father might not
like me, Leon."
Maria said.

Indirect
Speech?
 Brains? You

 An indirect speech is
the reported speech
by another person
about the direct
speech of the speaker.
 It doesn’t use
quotation marks

(“”)
…and the verb
tense changes.

Direct speech into an
Indirect or Reported Speech?
 There are rules to follow in changing
direct speech to indirect speech or vice-
versa.
