THE EXISTENCE

OF GOD
THE EXISTENCE OF
GOD
► The existence of God is considered as a
“first truth”, being logically prior to the
belief in the Bible. It is the very
foundational truth that all else anchor to.
It is, therefore, very necessary to
understand the arguments presented for
this matter.
THE ARGUMENTS FOR THE EXISTENCE
OF GOD FALL INTO THREE BROAD
GROUPS.
►The Belief in the Existence of God is Intuitive.
►A belief is intuitive if it is universal.
►It is universal since God outwardly revealed Himself through
creation (Rom. 1:19-20) which renders man to be without any
excuse for not believing that He exists.
►It is universal since God inwardly revealed Himself through
the conscience (Rom. 2:15)
Calvin in his Institutes has this to say,

“That there exists in the human minds and indeed by natural

instinct, some sense of Deity, we hold to be beyond dispute,
since God himself, to prevent any man from pretending
ignorance, has endued all men with some idea of his Godhead,
the memory of which he constantly renews and occasionally
enlarges, that all to a man being aware that there is a God,
and that he is their Maker, may be condemned by their own
conscience when they neither worship him nor consecrate
their lives to his service.”

GROUPS.
►The Belief in the Existence of God is Intuitive.
►A belief is intuitive if it is necessary.
►It is necessary in the sense that we cannot deny his
existence without doing violence to the very laws of our
nature.
►Its denial is only temporary as it has been clouded by
various thoughts and philosophies but take those things
away and it will return to what is natural.
►Its suppression is due to the fallen nature of man.
THE ARGUMENTS FOR THE EXISTENCE
OF GOD FALL INTO THREE BROAD
GROUPS.
►The Existence of God is Assumed in the
Scriptures.
►The Bible did not attempt to prove the existence of
God, it strongly asserts it.
►The Bible does not argue for the existence of God
but aims to introduce the identity of that God it
assumes to exist.

While the philosophical arguments contributed to the
flight of Christianity during the scholastic and
enlightenment era, they did not fully prove the existence of
God. In a way they can be used to explain a facet but the
existence of God must always be taken as a propositional
truth taught in the Scriptures to be taken and seen
through the eyes of faith.
Important Insights on the Existence of
God
►The proving of God’s existence
had already been done by God
Himself (Romans 1:19-20).
Romans 1:19-20 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them,
because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely,
his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever
since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they
are without excuse.
Important Insights on the Existence of
God
►Man has no more excused in
not believing the existence of
God.
Romans 1:20 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and
divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the
world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
Important Insights on the Existence of
God

►Faith is essential to the

acceptance of the existence
of God.
Hebrews 11:1 1 Now faith is the assurance of things
hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

►Be careful not to put up
arguments that would just all
the more question God rather
than make Him clear.
