St. Vincent volcanic eruption

• On the 9th April,2021. la Soufriere a

volcano in st Vincent erupted which
resulted in the entire country being
covered in ash .
Was there any damage and what was the
extent of the damage.
• When the volcano erupted it sent volcanic
ash and poisonous gases high into the air
however only buildings that were close to
the volcano were covered in ash and soot
and no one was hurt however water and
most fresh foods became harmful to eat.
Were there lives and properties lost?

• When la Soufriere erupted it caused the

displacement of 20 ,000 persons which was
a result of buildings being covered in soot
because of this many persons went to other
Caribbean islands to stay properties and
lives were not lost but many properties
were left abandoned.
What happened to the economy and the cost of
losses?

• When st Vincent's volcano erupted there

was a drastic fall in tourism as most of the
country was covered in soot because of
this and estimated loss of 1.5 billion us
dollars from tourism alone and losses
estimated at 12 million dollars. IMF gave
the country 11 million dollars to help
economically.
Did the country need help and where did they
get the help?
• Yes the country needed help because it
was covered in soot and all food and
water became toxic if digested so other
Caribbean countries including: Jamaicans
Lucia , Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana
cam together and provided support for
the Vincentians.
To this date is the country still recovering or
fully recovered?

• St Vincent is still recovering because la

Soufriere is still at an orange level and can
erupt at any time . Due to this many
Vincentians are migrating outward and
further from the chain of volcanoes.
