(rhetorical question)

How many of you guys here own a pet or pets? Or at least have
touched an animal once in their lifetime. I'm pretty sure most of
you guys have right. In my case, I own two cats named husky and
bobby.Look at them, cute right? Well my real question is, now
imagine these two adorable cats being confined in a cage with
their vocal chords taken out. Or imagine them pinned down on a
table while someone mercilessly shaves out their fur and injects a
tube of chemicals inside their tummy.

The Draize test
• the Draize test has become practically obsolete because of the development of a synthetic
cellular tissue that closely resembles human skin. Researchers can test the potential damage
that a product can do to the skin by using this artificial "skin" instead of testing on animals
Eyetex
• This synthetic material turns opaque when a product damages it, closely resembling the way
that a real eye reacts to harmful substances
Computers
• Computer can also be used to simulate and estimate the potential damage that a product or
chemical can cause, and plus human tissues and cells have been used to examine the effects
of harmful substances. In another method, in vitro testing, cellular tests are done inside a test
tube. All of these tests have been proven to be useful and reliable alternatives to testing
products on live animals
B. ANIMAL TESTING IS AGAISNT THE NATURAL LAW
Definition
• The word "Goodness" is seen as fulfilling its natural purpose and "badness" is going against the natural
purpose. The natural purpose of animals is not to be used in laboratories but to be creatures and have rights of
their own. Natural Law universally defends the inherent dignity of humankind, even the unborn. Therefore we
must defend the dignity of being humane and treating animals with the utmost respect.

Religious Scriptures
• in the Bible, Jesus Christ has stated that “Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast, but the
mercy of the wicked is cruel”.
• Next, for Muslims, the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) exhorted Muslims to show kindness and
compassion towards animals and birds, and repeatedly forbade cruelty towards animals. “Whoever is merciful
even to a sparrow, Allah will be merciful to him on the Day of Judgment.”

C. ANIMAL TESTING IS NOT ACCURATE

Statistics
• Based on a scientific study, 90% of drugs will fail in human trials despite promising results in animal tests.
• To add, a recent study found that out of 93 dangerous drug side effects, only 19% could have been predicted
by animal tests.

Why is it not reliable?

• The body systems of animals are different from those of human beings. For instance, Aspirin is widely used
for the treatment of fever, pain, and inflammation in human beings. However, this very medicine proves to be
toxic for mice.
• Animals cannot be reliable sources for predicting results on human beings. That is, mice or rats
are not the correct means to speculate reactions in human beings.
• Not to mention, the side effects of drugs like thalidomide are a testimony to the claim that
medicines tested on animals cannot be considered safe for human use.
