ABS Group history
 1860
– JMW, the oldest of all companies which will later become today’s ABS, is founded.

 1918
– AB Pumpindustri is founded in Sweden by the trading company Ekman & Co.

 1950’s - 60’s
– ABS Pumpen is founded in Scheiderhöhe, Germany in 1959, manufacturing submersible
wastewater pumps and mixers.
– In 1966, AB Pumpindustri is acquired by Wilh. Sonesson AB, Malmö, Sweden and changes name to
Sonesson Pumpindustri AB.

 1970’s - 80’s
– In 1979, Sonesson Pumpindustri changes name to Scanpump AB.
– Acqusition is made in 1982 of JMW, Jönköpings Mekaniska Verkstad, a manufacturer of large
pumps for pulp & paper, water and wastewaster. In 1985, a manufacturer of building services
pumps, Vadstena Pumpar, is acquired. One year later, the Swedish dewatering and wastewater
pump specialist, PUMPEX, is acquired.
– A restructuring is made in 1986 when Sonesson (owner of Scanpump) together with Volvo, Beijer
and Cardo is forming the new Investment AB Cardo.
– In 1989, Scanpump acquires ABS Pumpen in Germany and becomes the fifth largest pump
company in Europe.

 1990’s
– In 1990, the company changes name to ABS Scanpump AB.
– In 1994, Volvo sells all shares in Investment AB Cardo to Swedish Incentive. Incentive restructures
Cardo and introduces a new Cardo AB on the Swedish stock exchange, with ABS Scanpump as part
of the business area Cardo Pump.
– Aqusitions made in 1995 of the Swedish company SCABA, agitator specialist for wastewater and
pulp & paper applications, and in 1997 of the submersible aerator business from German based
Frings.

 2000’s
– In 2001, acquisitions are made of Swedish Swedmeter, control & monitoring, and the Finnish
company NOPON, solutions providers in aeration and suppliers of submersible aerator mixers, disc
diffuser systems and high speed turbocompressors for oxygenation in biological treatment
applications.
– In 2004 - 2005, the Group’s undergoes major changes in consolidation of market channels, brands
and manufacturing units, and also a geographic re-positioning towards emerging markets. In 2005,
the complete Group offering is for the first time presented under one common brand – ABS. The
new business strategy is a clear focus on wastewater technology, with dewatering as a
complementing field.
– For the pulp & paper market a new organization is founded, ABS Scanpump AB.
