This is a 3 QB system.

The QB will pitch to one of the rolling out QB’s at the last second, right before the rusher
gets his flag. The later the pitch is made, the better (unless it compromises his ability to make the pitch). The QB
should pitch to the side opposite to where the safety is leaning. If the safety is dead in the middle, pitch to the
strong side (make sure the strong side is always the long side) or whichever side is easiest to make the pitch (if
the rusher is obstructing it). All of those give you an advantage (strong over weak, long side over short side). If you
think the safety is anticipating one side over the other, pitch to opposite.
The WO’s should be spaced out no less than 5 yards from sideline, the slot should be closer to the center than the
WO. The slot reads the safety and breaks in the direction the safety moves. As soon as he sees the safety
following the pitch, he breaks to sideline aiming at 10 yards depth. The only exception to this is if he sees the
safety moving to the weak side of the field before getting to at least 8 yards depth on his route, in which case he
should aim at 15 yards depth on the weak sideline as the dotted line indicates. This prevents him from being too
flat (as he has a long way to go). The Center also reads the safety so he knows which side the pass will be
coming from and can turn his head accordingly.
The QB who gets the pitch passes either the center, the WO, or the slot. Read the WO first, then the center, then
the slot. If there ever is open field in front of him he should just run!
This play will work vs. a 2 deep zone as well. The slot just needs to read the strong safety instead of the free
safety, and the center must read both safeties, seeing which one moves toward him. The pass will be coming from
the side that safety is moving to.
This is a great way to beat a 2 deep zone using the same formation. The slot runs a seam route slightly to the
inside looking for the ball immediately to his inside shoulder. If the slot gets to 10 yards depth before the ball is
thrown, he should break to the outside at 90 degrees. The center takes a step toward the weakside then runs a
seam up the middle looking for the ball immediately over his inside shoulder, if no pass just keep running. The
weakside QB/RB runs to the LOS to a point about 6 or 7 yards outside the center and then runs a seam route
straight upfield. He must get there as quickly as possible! The WO’s hook up in the corner’s zones, keeping them
as far outside as possible.
The QB reads middle of the field. If no one is there to cover the center, give him a bullet in stride to his inside
shoulder. If the SLB moves to the middle of the field, give a bullet to the slot in stride. If the WLB moves to the
middle, pass a bullet in stride to the QB/RB as soon as he gets to the LOS. If one of the safeties comes up,
leaving only one deep, wait and pitch to the rolling out QB.
The rolling QB should pass to either the center or the slot in their deep routes, whichever the safety leaves open.
Here is another way to run the same basic play. The center runs to the weak sideline aiming at about 8 yards
depth. The slot aims to where a MLB would normally be (then keeps running). And the strongside QB runs to the
spot the slot lined up at and then runs a seam route. The QB reads the slot. If the WLB moves to the middle, pass
a bullet to the center. If the SLB moves to the middle, pass a bullet to the QB in stride as soon as he reaches the
LOS. If the center and slot see the QB pitch the ball, they should turn upfield (the center should wheel a bit toward
the sideline to allow enough separation from the slot). The strongside QB should continue upfield aiming slightly
inside. The weakside QB should read the slot first and if covered pass to either of the other deep routes.
Mix this play in with the previous one to keep the defense guessing. In both of these plays, make sure the
cornerbacks are staying in their zone. If not, alert the QB to pass to the WO’s to keep them honest.
