What is a Global City?
Home of major stock exchange and indexes.
Influential in International political affairs
Home of world renowned cultural institutions
Service a major media hub
Large mass transit networks
Home of large international airports
Having a prominent skyline


What makes a city a global city?
A global city is a city of demographic and economic change. It contains
international organization, different firms such as law firms,
headquarters of multinational countries as well as exchanges the
influence of the worlds economy.
• Cities are the engines of globalization. They are social magnets, growing
faster and faster.
• In the current generation urban life has become the dominant form of
human life throughout the world.
What role do cities play in globalization
They bring economies of scale, develop markets, create jobs, encourage
new economic activities to flourish.
As economies move from primary activities such as farming, fishing and
mining to industrial production and then to services, the role of cities in
the global economy increase with each transition.
• What is globalization engine?
The two key engines of globalization are:
Technology revolution
Politico-economic liberalization.
