MODALS : MUST & HAVE TO / HAS TO


1. MUST (HARUS)

Pattern : S + must + V1

We use “must” to talk about rules & obligation to do


something
Examples :

• All student must wear a uniforms.


• You must speak louder. I can’t hear you.
• We must study hard to graduate.

2. MUSTN’T (TIDAK HARUS)

Pattern : S + mustn’t + V1

We use “mustn’t” for prohibition or something that is not


allowed

Examples :

• We mustn’t bring food or drink to the library.


• Cars mustn’t park in front of the entrance.
• You mustn’t step on the grass.

3. HAVE / HAS TO
Pattern : S + have to / has to + V1

We use “have to/ has to” to talk about weaker


obligation than “must”

Examples :

• We have to eat.
• They have to sleep.
• She has to go to school at seven o’clock.

4. DON’T HAVE TO / DOESN’T HAS TO

Pattern : S + don’t have to / doesn’t has to + V1

There is no obligation, you are not required to do


something, especially if you don’t want to.

Examples :

• He doesn’t have to come if he doesn’t wan’t to.


• You don’t have to whisper, no one care hear us.
• I don’t have to bring food, there will be much foods.
