Simple Present
Is used for:
 Repeated or habitual actions and situations; such as ~Examples~
routines.
• I usually clean the house every day.
 General truths and natural phenomena.
• The moon goes around the Earth.
 Permanent situations or states in the present.
• She lives in Italy with her sister.
 Future actions related to schedules or programs.
• The plane arrives at five o’clock.
Present time
The simple present can also be used to:
 Exclamatory sentences with “Here and There”. ~Examples~
 Headlines • Here we go! / Omg! There she goes again!
 sports commentaries • A mystery man robs an expensive store.

 story-telling • Messi takes the ball and scores.


 directions • In this chapter, Olive found her cat, Kitty.

 reviews of books • Turn left down that street and you will find the store.

(+) Affirmative sentences: SUBJECT + VERB IN BASE FORM + COMPLEMENT

~Rules of the simple present~
(+) Affirmative sentences:
If the verb in base form ends in -y, and is preceded by a consonant, it is changed to -ies. But if the -y is preceded by a vowel,
an -s is added.
If the verb in base form ends in –ss,-x,-sh or -ch, we add –es.
She watches her favorite tv program at night, after work.
HE 

 He hardly ever plays video games.

SHE (-) Negative sentences: SUBJECT + DOESN’T + VERB IN BASE FORM + COMPLEMENT
 He doesn’t live in Washington, He lives in California.
