GRAMMAR: TYPES OF WORDS
I. Types of words:
1. Noun: a word that refers to a person,
a place or a thing, a quality or an
activity
Ex: Ann, doctor, Paris, city, plant,
joy, tennis, etc.

2. Verb: a word or group of


words that expresses an
action, an event or a state
Ex: eat, happen, exist, etc.

3. Adjective: a word that describes a


person or thing
Ex: big in a big house
red in a red wine
clever in a clever
idea

4. Adverb: a word that adds more


information about place, time,
manner, cause or degree to a verb, an
adjective, a phrase or another adverb
Ex: big in a big house
red in a red wine
clever in a clever idea

5. Preposition: a word or group of


words, used before a noun or
pronoun to show place, position,
time or method
Ex: in, from, to, out of, on behalf
of, etc.
