Introduction

 As the demand for commercial deliveries increases within cities, companies face a
fundamental limitation in surface road capacity. Drone delivery aims to overcome
that limitation by exploiting the vertical dimension above city streets
 A vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) delivery drone can ease operations at the
terminal area at a cost to flight efficiency. The limited delivery range and payload
requirements, coupled with the power efficiency of electric motors at small scales,
make VTOL viable.
LITERATURE REVIEW
 When people think of drones, they usually associate them with video surveillance or military warfare
purposes. Drones are currently being used in the U.S. for surveying, inspecting, and imaging. Strict
regulations and licensing requirements are enforced by U.S. federal agencies, which currently hinder the
exploration of drone technologies.
 the use of drones for commercial application has been an increasing topic of exploration for many
companies. The top three companies that are exploring the use of commercial drone applications are
Amazon Prime Air, DHL and Google.
 The goal of Google’s Project Wing is to provide disaster relief by delivering aid, including water and
medical supplies to affected areas.
 Plant protection for agriculture and forestry jobs uses drone to achieve spraying operation, the agent can be
sprayed, seeds, powders, etc.
 Quadcopter can help in disaster management and rescuing operation.
 UAV’s have the added advantage of not having the operator on board which makes them more expendable
and allows them to operate in extreme and dangerous environments with no risk to the operator.
Abstract

 Drones have recently become a promising solution for rapid parcel delivery due to
advances in battery technology and navigation systems.
 The advantages of a system is mainly related to an increased delivery speed,
especially in urban contexts with traffic, to the possibility to make deliveries in
areas usually difficult to be reached, and to the drone's ability to autonomously
carry out consignments.
 A practical use case, in which the proposed system is used for delivering drugs
(an application in which the need to quickly receive the good might be
particularly important) is shown.
Problem Statement

 The rapid increase in usage of online ordering has increased the requirement of
manpower to deliver in multiple folds.
 Traditional delivery is highly dependent on human and transport system.
 Traditional delivery is inefficient and cause lot of problems like traffic congestion,
delayed delivery, no contactless delivery.
Methodology

 The project will be divided into three major parts:

 Configuring drone with radio controller.
 Making Drone enough stable to hover on its own position
without controller with gyro-sensor, compass and GPS.
 ControllingDrone with Mobile according to GPS location with
Telemetry module.

Drone Metrics

 Thrust to weight ratio

 The thrust-to-weight ratio is calculated by dividing the thrust (newtons) by the weight
(newtons) of the engine or vehicle.
 For Typical drone ratio is around 2:1.
 Using 1045 props, we could produce 2680 grams of thrust (670g * 4 motors) at 11V.
 With a TW of 2, having 2680 grams of thrust with 1100 grams of weight would put us
close to our goal.
Drone Metrics
 The following metrics will compare the traditional delivery system and quadcopter delivery system. Traditional
delivery system will consists of a delivery person riding and a motorcycle.
 Delivery Time :-
 The delivery time of delivery person for a distance of 2km is nearly about 7 min reported from google maps on average
traffic between Kundanhalli Gate and CMRIT.
 While The delivery time for drone for 2km distance at an average speed of 35km/hr is nearly about 3 minutes 30 seconds.
 CO2 Emission :-
 On Average delivery person will emit 41.2 gCO2/ km for 100cc IC Engine.
 On Average a drone will have 0 emission while flying
 Operating Cost
 Delivery Person: For a mileage of 50km/l, a motorcycle will consume 40 ml fuel for 2km delivery, at price of 100rs /l –
one Delivery will cost 4rs fuel
 Drone : To charge a 10000mah, It will take 0.8rs of electricity at 1 unit of energy = 8Rs and Battery charges with a rating
of 80watt hour.
Drone Metrics

 Range
 The normal operating range for drone is radius of 2KM from the launch base.
 Further with IOT implementation and Internet, Drone can be controlled and operated
from different launch base.
 Carrying Capacity
 Drone has a weight of 1Kg.
 Drone can carry 1.5 - 2 Kg item.
