Bamboo and Wood Instruments

1. Kubing- It is a Jew’s Harp from Mindanao. It is


also a “ speaking instrument” and is used in
courtship.
2. Kagul- It is a type of bamboo scraper gong used
by Maguindanaons and Visayan. Its sound produced
helps the Maguindanaons scare away voracious birds
from their rice paddies.
3. Luntang- It is one of the Maguindanaon
xylophones.It has horizontal log hung in ascending
order.
4. Gabbang- It is a bamboo xylophone of the
Muslims of Sulu.It is made of trapezoidal in shape
and played by hitting the bamboo blades.
5. Gandang- It is a double-headed cylindrical drum.
Both end are covered with animal skin and played
by tapping, or by striking using wooden sticks.
6. Suling- It is the smallest bamboo flute of
Maguindanaon
7. Sahunay- It is a pipe instrument with six finger
holes. It has a bell made of bamboo leaves.
