• The first car was patented by
German Carl Friedrich Benz in Jan
29, 1886.
• Costed him 825 Imperial German
Marks to make(€26,000 today)
• Had a 954 cc (58.2 cu in) single-
cylinder four stroke engine. This
new engine produced 500 watts at
250 rpm.
• Later got the Max Speed to 16km/h

FORD MODEL T
BY HENRY FORD.
• After the failure of 1903 Model A,
Henry Ford came up with something
new.
• Introduced in 1908, became a hit. It
costed $825($24,880/19,65,089 Rs.
today)
• Engine mounted in the front with a 4-
cylinder engine
• Had a top speed of 42 mph(68km/h)
with a milage of 13-21 miles per
gallon(5.5-9 km per liter)
• Went on be popular till the late 1920s
1930S TO1940S

• Due to the great depression, there was a huge decline


in the car market. And further due to WWII, car
companies halted their car production and prepared
war related equipment. One of the most notable of
this era was Volkswagen’s Beetle(1938) (people’s
car).
• Hitler’s initiative to provide jobs led to the creation
of this car.
• It was an extremely affordable car for the German
people.
• Production short-lived due to the outbreak of war but
was resumed after it till 2019.
CHEVY BEL
AIR OF 1949
• After WWII, while most countries saw a
decline in their economy, the United States’
economy was booming. As Americans got
more richer Chevy Bel Air became a popular
car.
• The new Chevy costed $2,166 in
1955($21,000/1658899 Rs. Today)
• Could go from 0-60mph(100km) in about 12.9
sec.
• The V8(8 cylindrical barrels) Engine was of
5,360 cc with duo 4-barrel carburetor setup
engine system
• Was sold till 1975(US).
RISE OF GERMAN
AUTOMAKERS
• As many car companies like Mercedes Benz and BMW’s
factories were destroyed by Allied Bombing, most of its
automobile production was reduced. Automobile became the
Driving force of Rebuilding Germany.
• BMW’s Series 3 had a six-cylindered car(latest tech at the
time)
• Volkswagen released its GT Polo, an affordable car.
• Mercedes 560 SEC of 1979
JAPANESE
AUTOMAKERS
• Japan was also severely hurt by the war. Most of its
industries had been destroyed, lost all its colonies and
had less amount natural resources. It used its human
resource to fuel its Rebuilding process.
• 1971 Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R Coupe: Regular
4-cylindered engine, reaching from 0-60mph in
7.9 sec/ 0-100 km/h in 8.3 sec.
• Toyota Century : Torque with 4000 rpm, 5000 cc V8
engine with top speed of 185 km/h
INDIAN AUTOMAKERS

• Although India had achieved its independence in 1947, socialist


policies limited the cars to the elite and politicians, and
businesses were discouraged. After 1991 economic
liberalization a lot of industries took place.
• Tata Indica(1998): Sold at 2.6 Lakh Rs.
• Maruti 800 was one of the most affordable in that time
• More number of cars were started to be produced in India by
early 2005s due to high economic development
SHIFT TO
ELECTRIC.
• As Fossil fuels were found to have been
causing serious environmental problems,
Electric cars were the new alternatives.
Tesla is the leading company in
manufacturing electric cars with its giga
factories in US, Shanghai and Berlin.
• Today tesla Model S plaid can have a max
speed of 200mph/321.8kmph.
• Can reach 0-60 mph in 2.5 sec.

• Can travel for 542 km with one full battery
