Defination
A river, canal, or other body of water serving as a route
or way of travel or transport is known as waterway.
Types of waterways
Canal
River
Sea

RIVER WAY
A river is a moving stream of water that flows downhill
to a lake or the sea
CANAL WAY
A canal is a watercourse that has been made by people
rather than a natural watercourse. Canals are generally
cut to make a transportation path, for boats to travel
along.
SEA WAY
The sea, or the ocean, covers most of the world. The
sea is a very large amount of salty water. People go
sailing on the sea in boats or ships.
Waterway
Good Waterway criteria
it must be deep enough to accommodate vessels loading to the
design draft;
it must be wide enough to allow passage of the vessels with the
design width or beam;
it must be free of obstacles to navigation such
as waterfalls and rapids, or offer a way around them (such
as canal locks or boat lifts);
its current must be mild enough to allow vessels to make
headway upstream without undue difficulty;
the wave height (on lakes) must not exceed the value for which
the class of vessel is designed.
Advantages

Low cost
Larger Capacity
Flexible Service
Safety
Disadvantages
Slow
Limited Area of Operation:
Unsuitable for Small Business:
Conclusion
 Water way are navigable rivers, canals, estuaries or firths.

In practice, and depending on the language, the term

'waterway' covers maritime or inland transport routes, as
suggested by 'way'.
