SUB TOPIC: HO M O
Clap once if it is a homogeneous mixture and
clap twice if it is NOT a homogeneous mixture..
1. Alcohol and water
2. Rain water and tap water
3. Cup of coffee and tea
4. white sugar and cornstarch
5. Oil and water
Look at these materials. Which are homogeneous or
uniform? Which are heterogeneous or non- uniform?
Activity Proper
1. Setting the standards
2. Each group will be given materials for
their activity/ Individual
1. Based on your activities, how do
heterogenous and homogeneous differ
from one another?

2. Cite examples of Heterogeneous

Mixture? Homogeneous Mixture?
Compare and contrast homogeneous and
heterogeneous mixture using the Venn diagram below.

Heterogeneous Homogeneous
Clap twice if the given example is a Homogeneous
mixture and clap three times for Heterogeneous mixture.
• Air • Cereal in milk
• Sugar water • Vegetable soup
• Rain water • Pizza
• Vodka • Blood
• Vinegar • Gravel
• Dishwashing detergent • Ice in soda
Steel • Salad dressing
• Mixed nuts
What homogenous or heterogenous
mixture can you make at home that
can be useful to your everyday life?
A homogeneous mixture is a mixture
where the components that make up the
mixture are uniformly distributed
throughout the mixture. The composition
of the mixture is the same throughout.

 There is only one phase of matter

observed in a homogeneous mixture.
HOMOGENEOUS MIXTURE EXAMPLES
• Air
• Sugar water
• Rain water
• Vodka
• Vinegar
• Dishwashing detergent
• Steel
A heterogeneous mixture is a mixture where the
components of the mixture are not uniform or have
localized regions with different properties. Different
samples from the mixture are not identical to each
other. There are always two or more phases in a
heterogeneous mixture, where you can identify a region with
properties that are distinct from those of another region, even
if they are the same state of matter (e.g. Liquid, solid).
HETEROGENEOUS MIXTURE EXAMPLES
• Cereal in milk • Gravel
• Vegetable soup • Ice in soda
• Pizza • Salad dressing
• Blood • Mixed nuts
• Bowl of colored candies
• Soil
Directions: Classify the following substances as heterogeneous mixture
or homogeneous mixture. Write each in its proper column.
