RUBBER FIBRE

By :- DAKSHITA PRADEEP SINGH

FBM :- Level 6.5
NATURAL RUBBER
High resiliency rate :- It can with stand cutting, or tearing .

High Tensile Strength :- It stays strong when it is stretched

Resistance :- Rubber has moderate resistance to

environmental damage by heat, light and ozone which is
one of its drawback

Adhesion :- Excellent adhesion to brass plated steel cord,

which is ideal in rubber tyre.
Uses of Natural Rubber

 Natural rubber forms an excellent barrier to water.

 It is best barrier against pathogens such as AIDS virus. That’s why latex is
used in surgical and medication examination gloves
 It is excellent spring material.
 They are used in balloons, medical tubes and elastic thread.
 Rubberwood is another byproduct of natural rubber which is now gaining
importance
Vulcanized Rubber

 Vulcanized rubber, though is made of natural fibre but went through the process
of vulcanization to improve the properties of natural rubber and to convert it into
useful industrial rubber type
 Natural rubber has too much water absorption capacity, low tensile Strength, very
low abrasion resistance and it is easily effected by organic reagents too, that’s why
process of vulcanization is done.
 Vulcanized process makes the rubber less sticky and superior mechanical
properties than natural rubber. The hardness of Vulcanized rubber depens upon
the amount of sulphur used.
Uses of Vulcanized Rubber

 Rubber hoses
 Shoes soles
 Toys
 Eraser
 Shock absorbers
 Vibrations dampers
Synthetic Rubber

 Good Elasticity
 Good resistance of heat and aging
 Flexible at low temperature
 Flame retardant
 Resistance to oil and grease etc
 Better abrasion resistance
Uses of Synthetic Rubber
 Tire industry (car, aircraft and bicycle tires)
 Drive Belts
 Hoses
 Medical equipment
 Seals
 Floor Covering
 Conveyor belts
 Molded parts
 Paint
