Title :-- 2D Electric Motor & Components
A DC motor is any of a class of rotary electrical motors that converts direct
current electrical energy into mechanical energy
1.Stator
2.Rotor
3.Yoke
4.Field Windings
5.Armature Windings
6.Brushes
7.Pole
8.Commutator
STATOR
• The stator is the stationary part of a rotary system found in electric motor.
Energy flows through a stator to or from the rotating component of the
system. In an electric motor, the stator provides a magnetic field that drives
the rotating armature.
• Steps to draw stator
Draw two circle and by triming them trim into 4 equal parts add threads
(square) to it. Add rectangular box to attach circular part to yoke repeat it for
another 3. Then select box command and draw rectangle in between two stator.
ROTOR
• ROTOR
• rotor is a moving component of an electromagnetic system in the electric motor, electric
generator, or alternator. Its rotation is due to the interaction between the windings and
magnetic fields which produces a torque around the rotor's axis
• Steps to draw rotor
• Draw two arc parallel and and draw small square between them and earse the second arc
and copy paste the boxes.
• Select the part drawn type arc and select polar then select the center of circle and write 4
value in tool bar.
YOKE
• Yoke is the body part of any motor whether it is dc motor or AC motor. It
serves the purpose of outer most cover othe motor. It provide a path of low
reluctance for flux. It forms a part of the magnetic circuits.
• Steps to draw YOKE
1)First we have to choose Draw option in CAD software
2)Then we have to choose Line option
4)Draw structure like octagon
5)Join all lines as shown in Drawing.
6) Follow all steps and draw another small structure inside that drawing
7)Then our drawing of YOKE is completed
TOOLS
• TOOLS USED - TRIM, MIRROR, EXPLODE, ROTATE, STRECH,
MOVE.
• DRAWING TOOLS- LINE, CIRCLE, RECTANGLE and POLYLINE
Brushes
The brushes of D.C motor are made up of carbon or graphite structure making contact
over the rotating commutator. Brushes are used to deliver and collect the current to
motor windings through mechanical commutation.
Tools: Circle
Line
Elliptical Arc

COMMUTATOR
A commutator is a rotary electrical switch that periodically reverses the current between the rotor and
the external circuit. Commutators are used in DC machines (DC motors and DC generators) universal
motors. A commutator is built with a set of contact bars and is set into the revolving shaft of a DC
machine allied to the armature winding.
Steps:
Draw two
Draw a
rectangles Draw polylines Draw lines

segments)
Tools used:
The armature winding is defined as the conductors which are housed and protected within the
armature slots are connected properly. These windings are arranged in the armature slots. The
helpful e.m.f will be encouraged in this winding which is received across the brushes.
STEPS:-
1. Fist make 2 circles of different sizes using circle tool.
2. Draw a pole using line and arc then use tool and then use array tool to get perfect poles on all four sides .
3.Use line , polyline, arc and array to make wire .
4. Now label the diagram using text tool.
TOOLS:-
1. Circle.
2. Line.
3. Trim.
4. Arc.
5. Copy.
6. Array.
7. Move.
8. Text.
Field Windings
A field winding is the insulated current-carrying coils on a field magnet that produce the magnetic field
needed to excite a generator or motor. As each coil is energized in turn, the rotor aligns itself with the magnetic
field produced by the energized field winding.
STEPS:-
1. Draw 2 circles with same centre but different in size, using circle tool to make commutator segment.
2. Now draw a poles using line too and make it 4 times using array then mark +ve and –ve poles.
3. make bigger circle using same centre to make armature conductor.
4. Now make shaft using circle and a arc tool .
5. Use arc, line and array to make winding to motor.
Tools:-
• Circle.
• Line.
• Array.
• Trim.
• Arc.
• Move.
