Secondary Sources
• Are works that analyze, assess or interpret an historical event, era, or
phenomenon, generally utilizing primary sources to do so. Secondary
sources often offer a review or a critique.
• Books, journal articles, reviews, study summaries, and other materials
are examples of secondary sources. In general, secondary texts are
written a long time after the events being studied. But even if someone
writes about something they personally witnessed many years after it
happened, it is still regarded as a primary source.
Examples of Secondary Sources

• Analysis or interpretation of data.
• Scholarly or other articles about a topic, especially by people not
directly involved.

understand, know and expand your knowledge about a certain
topic, life story and even history because in the secondary sources
it provides additional perspectives and insight that may help us to

better. Secondary sources also sometimes provide up to date
