ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

• Commonly artificial intelligence is known to be the intelligence

exhibited by machines and software for example robots and
computer programs.
• The term is generally used for developing system equipped with
intellectual processes features and characteristics of humans.
NEED FOR AI IN ELECTRICAL
ENGINEERING
• The fault analysis by conventional techniques become more
difficult because of Complex, versatile and large amount of
information which is used in calculation, diagnosis and learning.
• With the growth of the power system, complexity in the
network is increased tremendously.
• As a consequence of this power system analysis by conventional
techniques and conclusion from the acquired data, process for
the information, management of remote devices and utility
become more complicated and time consuming.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
TECHNIQUES

• EXPERT SYSTEM TECHNIQUES

• ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK
• FUZZY LOGIC SYSTEMS
EXPERT SYSTEM
• A piece of software which uses databases of expert knowledge to
offer advice or make decisions in such areas as medical
diagnosis,account,coding,games,etc.
HOW EXPERT SYSTEM CAN BE USED :

• The process of writing of codes in these program is simpler than

actually calculating and estimating the value of parameters used in
generation,transmission and distribution.
• Any modification even after design can be easily done.
• Virtually estimation of these values can be done and further
research for increasing efficiency of process can also be
performed.
APPLICATIONS

• Expert system are especially useful for problem when a large

amount of data and information have to be processed in a short
time.
• Many application in power system related to Power system
designing and analysis match the abilities of expert system.

ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK

• Artificial Neural Network(ANN) are

biologically inspired systems and it is
mathematical models that simulate the
human biological neural network for
processing information where each neuron
produces one output as a function of inputs.
• Understanding how neurons work and how
they connect can be utilized to build
computers that can solve real-world
challenges like pattern classification and
pattern recognition.
HOW ANN CAN BE USED :

• An ANN operate on biological instinct and perform biological

evaluation of real world problems, the problem in
generation, transmission and distribution of electricity can be fed
to the ANNs so that a suitable solution can be obtained.
• Give the constraints of practical transmission and distribution
system, the exact value of parameters can be determined.
APPLICATION OF ANN

• Load forecasting
• Fault diagnosis
• State estimation
• Protection
• Load modelling
• Security Assessment

FUZZY LOGIC SYSTEMS

• Fuzzy system or fuzzy logic are logical

system used for standardization and
formalization of approximate
reasoning.
• It is similar to human decision human
making with an ability to produce
exact and accurate solutions or even
approximate information of data.
HOW FUZZY LOGIC CAN BE USED

• Fuzzy logic can be used for designing the physical component of

power system.
• They can be used in anything from small circuits to large
mainframes.
• They can be used to increase the efficiency of components used in
power system.
APPLICATION OF FLC

• Reactive power planning and control

• Power system control
• Stability Enhancement
• State Estimation
