CASE
ANALYSIS
ON
ANGELO’S
PIZZA
HOW IT ALL
BEGAN…
• Angelo Camero was brought up in the Bronx, New
York, and basically always wanted to be in the pizza
store business.

• He would spend most of the time during his young age

in other pizza stores to have a look at the operations.

• He used to have a check of the employee service

standards and the way they work and the way they
render services and etc.

• Within 5 years, Angelo's store was a success, and he

had opened three other stores and was considering
franchising his concept.
PROBLEMS ARISED…
• With just one store and a handful of employees, he could personally supervise the service.
• But things started getting tough when there was an expansion of the business.
• He hired managers for the two new stores (both of whom had worked for him at his first store for several
years) and gave them only minimal "how to run a store"-type training.
• Angelo was lacking in training the employees and exhibiting proper outsourcing.
• Here, hiring was the biggest problem. He was very
poor in placing the “right candidate in the right
place”.

• There would be always a mismatch in the balances

and payments, as Angelo was not aware of what is
happening with other branches.

• Angelo was not just worried about someone stealing

cash. They can steal your whole business idea.
• The problem was bad at the hourly employee level:
"We were churning a lot at the hourly level," said
Angelo.
COMING UP WITH A SOLUTION
• Angelo was fed up with the problems, he then learned
to set up a formal screening process and choose the
right candidates for the required job vacancies.

• After he started streamlining, he properly delegated

the work to each employee, he used to personally
train all of them.

• He used to pay a bit more than prevailing wages, but

it was less for the quality of employees he expected.

STORE MANAGER
A restaurant manager’s work hours and job nature are also highly
irregular. He has to fill in for an absent employee, no matter what his job
designation is, at the last minute. He has to take care of the entire
operations of the company
Questions to be asked while screening
1) Tell me about a time you were the leader of a team. What did you
enjoy about the experience?
2) What are you most proud of in your career?
3) If you could change one bad decision you’ve made in the past, which
would it be and why?
WAITERS AND WAITRESS/WAIT STAFF:
The waiter should be kind, polite, and accurate, know two – three
languages, and understand what the client orders. They are like
beauty to the company, they contribute a lot to the success of the
company. They should spread act friendly with the customers and
treat the with utmost dual respect.
Questions to be asked while screening
1) How can you explain menu items before customers?
2) How to deal with problematic customers?
3) How to deal with impatient customers?
4) What if customers order food that is not available, how do you
convince them to change the order?

PIZZA-MAKERS/COUNTER PEOPLE:

The work of a pizza maker will start with making

pizzas, doing dishes, working with customers, cash
registering, and prepping food in the morning.
Occasionally opening and closing while training new
employees.

Questions to be asked while screening

1) What does the word “pizza” mean to you
2) What about weaknesses?
3) Do you have any ideas on how to make our pizza
business better
4) Do you have any endorsements?
04 Based on what you know about Angelo’s, and what you know from
having visited pizza restaurants, write a one-page outline showing
specifically how you think Angelo’s should go about selecting Employees.

Angelo first needs to start a business strategy. A business plan will outline his strategic
goals and help Angelo to determine the employees he needs to develop. Certain
businesses want to attract and maintain certain people.
Once Angelo knows the person he hopes to recruit for his business, he needs a
comprehensive plan for hiring them. Angelo needs to develop a screening process for
applicants that include hiring guidelines, reference checking, extensive interviews, and
future skills assessments for the skills the job requires.
