BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

• As a humid country, home gardens are especially common in the

Philippines.
• A home garden is a mixed cropping system － a portion of land near
the household that has been cultivated and incorporates produce,
medicinal plants, etc. As well as livestock that could provide an
additional source of food and income to the households.
• Also, home gardens can help mitigate ecosystem degradation while
providing food and economic opportunities to rural people.
• As one of several approaches to alleviating poverty in the West, Kibawe
Area, this study postulates the center for enlightened decisions to
sustain the implementation of household and neighborhood food
gardens
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
• The research has found that it was important to know whether the
different household and neighborhood home gardens could affect the
wider economic impact of societies and whether their outcomes could
be seen as an alternative to alleviate poverty.
• A review in 2010 revealed that the past researches on home gardens
focus more on the highly developed countries and rarely on rural areas
in the Philippines.
• Hence, this study will focus on the impact of home gardens on poverty
and food insecurity in the West, Kibawe Area of Bukidnon.
• Based on the results of previous researches, the researchers
hypothesized that home gardens could become a potential source of
household income and alleviate the food security level of many rural
areas, especially in West, Kibawe, Bukidnon.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This study will determine the impact of home gardens on household income and food
security.
Moreover, this seeks to answer the following specific questions:
1. What is the percentage of households with home gardens in West, Kibawe,
Bukidnon?
2. What are the pros and cons in choosing and establishing home gardens?
3. What are the benefits of home gardens towards the household?
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
General Objectives
Identify the importance of home gardens and its socio-economic impact on the rural
communities of West, Kibawe, Bukidnon.

Specific Objectives
1. To know the percentage of households with home gardens in the area.
2. To recognize the pros and cons of choosing and establishing home gardens.
3. To identify the possible benefits of establishing home gardens in the households.
HYPOTHESIS OF THE STUDY

• H₁: Home gardens are positively related

to the income of households.

• H₂: Home gardens are positively related

to the food security of the households.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The households. It would provide them valuable
information and encourage them to do home gardening.

The community. The data will help in identifying
households that practiced home gardening, and encourage
the community to participate as well.

The government. The research would provide evidence on
the current situation about home gardening and help the
government create plans in improving and promoting it in
the Philippines.

The future researchers. The research would serve as
reference materials for those interested in similar topics.
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS

• 144 respondents from West, Kibawe

(Purposive sampling)
• Virtual/online survey
• Residents who has home garden at their
homes can participate
• Those who can provide genuine and necessary
data can be a representative of this study
• Those who do not reside at the chosen locale
will not be considered as participant
 
 ETHICAL GUIDELINES

• Participants must answer VOLUNTARILY.

• A consent form will be given for the authentication of
participation.
• They will be asked which online platform can best accommodate
them.
• Terms and conditions will be presented to ensure that they are
informed of what the research is all about such as the scope and
prohibitions.
• They can revoke their participation within valid reasons.
• Ensure that the participants will not be harmed both physical
and psychological aspects
 ETHICAL GUIDELINES

• Shall not include any vulgar and offensive words that may
discriminate and offend the participants.
• Confidentiality is guaranteed in this research in accordance with
the terms and conditions as well as the Republic Act No. 10173
of the Philippines, Data Privacy Act of 2012.
• The result of the study will be treated with honesty and equality.
Thus, any form of misconduct is not allowed
• To prove the legitimacy of the collected information,
documentation will be gathered through attachment of photos
in the google form and other social media platform.
• The collected data will be stored in a flashdrive for security
purposes.
