INTRODUCTION:
As part of our academics, it was observed that a report mentioning our views and
reactions regarding the social issues is essential; it shall be a part of learning for a management
student. So the Peddipalem village which was adopted by GITAM INSTITUTE OF
MANAGEMENT has become our subject of study. The village of Peddipalem, Anadapuram
Mandal, was considered for the study of demographic, socio economic status of households as
part of our social project.

The village was adopted by GITAM INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT as part of

village development programme. The demographic details of the village are as follows:

According to Census 2011 information the location code or village code of

Peddipalem village is 586304. Peddipalem village is located in Makavarapalem Tehsil of
Visakhapatnam district in Andhra Pradesh, India. It is situated 4km away from sub-district
headquarter Makavarapalem and 84km away from district headquarter Visakhapatnam. As per
2009 statistics, Peddipalem village is also a gram panchayat.

The total geographical area of village is 225 hectares. Peddipalem has a total population of 1,554
in number. There are about 427 houses in Peddipalem village. Anakapalle is nearest town to
Peddipalem which is approximately 40km away.

As the part of the study I went to the village and had a survey on the demographic
details of the allotted households and collected the details regarding their socio economic
profiles like sanitation facilities, water facilities and health facilities through a questionnaire.
METHODOLOGY:

Research methodology is a systematic solving of the research problem.

Research methodology deals with the research design used and the methods used to present the
study. A strong methodology is the backbone of the research. It provides the ground to the
research therefore the topic should also be selective. This research deals with qualitative
approach with the help of quantitative analysis to find out in depth.
The survey was conducted through Interview schedule, which is circulated in
the idea behind this particular section, is to reveal the rationale for the research methodology, the
method and Strategy adopted in collecting data for the research.

RESEARCH DESIGN:

Research design is a way to systematically solve the research problem. It may be understood as a
science of studying how research is done scientifically. In it we study the various aspects that are
generally adopted by a researcher in studying his research problem along with the logic behind
them.
SURVEY:

A survey “involves acquiring information about one or more groups of people-

perhaps about their characteristics, opinions, attitudes or previous experience by asking them
questions and tabulating their answers” It is a method that has been used frequently to source
information from individuals or group of individuals. The survey questionnaires were self-
administered. The self-administered questionnaire method was employed because of its cost
effective nature relative to interviews. Large number of participants can be involved and a lot of
data collected in a relatively shorter time and at less cost with the same length of questions and
objectives. Although participants in this method are more likely to abandon the research in the
course of responding, its privacy and anonymity promotes genuine answers. The less pressure on
participants was also considered as a better way of convincing respondents to participate fully.
With this method, interviewer biases are non-existent. However, problems can arise if questions
are unclear, as the respondent cannot check what the researcher intended. A well-designed
questionnaire was therefore importantly made.
RESEARCH METHODS

The researchers made use of both primary and secondary data, which were gathered from
diverse sources, including, archival sources, text books, journals/articles, and internet sites.

PRIMARY DATA:
The primary research is tailored to suit the needs of the research. This research involves the
collection of raw data, which forms the main basis for achieving the research objectives. The
sources of which includes, unpublished documents, research institutes and other agencies. An
attempt was made at collecting and analyzing primary data which has gone a long way to
validate the findings and conclusions drawn from the research. The qualitative research
approach was deemed to be appropriate by the researchers hence its adoption. It has been
observed that the use of multiple data collection methods, such as observation, surveys,
document analysis and questionnaires are very important. With the importance of multiple
sources of data very vital to the reliability of this research, one primary sources of evidence were
used: questionnaires. The method for collecting research data is linked to research approaches
adopted. The two data collection methods proved useful in providing detail information needed
for the studies. Primary data collection methods that were adopted includes: questionnaire
administration, observation.

SECONDARY DATA:

The secondary are those which have already been collected by someone else and have already
been passed through the statistical process in the research process.

OTHER PROBLEMS / Lack of proper funding from Need a pucca house & financial
REQUIREMENTS: the government support. from the government.

RECOMMENDATIONS : Should create awareness for Need financial assistance ,

the villagers regarding the sanitation & housing facility
welfare schemes
FINDINGS:

 The majority of the children in the family are in secondary and higher secondary schools
provided by the government but the problem with these schools distance from the village.
 The sanitation facilities in the village are not good as the waste is disposed in the open
area, in lakes and burns in the open area.
 Water facilities in the village is not up to the mark as the quality of the water is not good
for dinking purpose
 Majority of the houses are of semi pucca type and most of them are having their own
houses.
 The availability of health facilities are not utilized by the people in the village as most of
them prefer to visit private hospitals to govt. hospitals for better treatment facilities.
 The PDF scheme is available for all the people in the village but it is not satisfactory.

SUGGESTIONS:
The main suggestions would be about the banking, infrastructure, road and hospital facilities
which the village as a total lacks. Many of the households are not using the municipality for
disposing the solid waste since it irregularly collects the waste. They dispose it in to the nearest
lake or burn it down. Many parts of the village are unclean and no proper hygienic conditions
available. Public Distribution System is available but it is not reached to the households who are
in actual need. Many Women health development programes are available but none of the
households are utilizing them. Development of anganwadi is required or any health dispensary
should be started since the hospital is too way long for the households in case of emergencies.
The roads and transport facilities are the other main suggestions for the village.
CONCLUSION:

The village is exclusively adopted by GITAM INSTITUE OF MANAGEMENT, therefore

many health, sanitation awareness programs can be conducted for making the households
knowledgeable about important it is to maintain good and clean surroundings. GIMSR
services can be utilized for conducting health campaigns in the village to educate people.
The survey helped us to actually know whether the Government welfare programs are
reaching the right person or not. The households are attaining good support from
government but they aren’t utilizing them. They don’t know about the PDS systems and
arogyasri and their welfare systems made available for them due to illiteracy. The
Government should start developing initiatives which would help the households to know
more about such allied programs which would help reaching the necessities to the actual
end users.
