MOTIVATIONAL

AND
AFFECTIVE FACTORS

Discussant : MISSION,
OBJECTI
VES:
At the end of this lesson, the students can:

1. Define the meaning of motivation.

2. Recognize the 3 principles under Motivational and Affective factors;

and

3. Appreciate the importance of Motivational and Affective factors in

facilitating learner-centered teaching.
“If you believe in yourself
anything is possible.”
- Miley Cyrus
WHAT IS MOTIVATION?
- is an internal state or condition
(sometimes described as a need, desire,
or want) that serves to activate behavior
and give it direction. (Kleingina et. Al,
1981)
3 Principles of
Motivational &
Affective Factor:
7th Principle:
Motivational & Emotional
Influences on Learning
- The rich internal world of thoughts, beliefs, goals,
and expectation for success or failure can enhance or
interfere with the learner’s quality of thinking and
information processing. What and how much is
learned is influenced by the learner’s motivation .
Motivation to learn, in turn, is influenced by the
individuals:
Emotional States
Beliefs
Interest & Goals
Habits of thinking
8th Principle:
Intrinsic Motivation to learn

- The learner’s creativity, higher order thinking, and

natural curiosity all contribute to motivation to learn.
Intrinsic motivation is stimulated by tasks of optimal
novelty and difficulty, relevant to personal choice and
control.
The word “intrinsic” means that something is
inherent by nature.

Example:
 Helping your neighbor because you like helping
others, not because you want them to return the
favor later.
9th Principle:
Effects of Motivation on Effort

- Acquisition of complex knowledge and skills

requires extended learner effort and guided practice.
Without learners’ motivation to learn, the willingness
to exert this effort is unlikely without coercion.
SUMMARY:
Teaching is not all about giving the knowledge that you have, it is
more than that. As an effective teacher, we should also acknowledge the
skills, talents, experience, interests, backgrounds and the needs of the
learner. With the guidance of these principles, we can achieve our goal
which is to be an effective educator. Hence, the significance of
interactions, culture, community, and wellbeing for learning is reflected
in these ideas. They center on the ways that teachers may support their
students by developing positive relationships with them and taking an
interest in their lives outside of the classroom through motivating the
students. Once an individual is motivated there's nothing impossible for
them to learn, there is this certain feeling that pushes them to participate
and learn even more.
