ANIMATION

TECHNICAL TERMS
• Frame rate – the frequency at which
consecutive images are captured or
displayed.
• FPS – a unit that measures frame rates.
WHAT IS ANIMATION?
By definition, animation is the art of making
drawings move or the method of photographing
successive drawings, models, and puppets and
manipulating them to appear as moving images.
HOW ANIMATION
WORKS?
Animations are created from a sequence
of still images. The images are
displayed rapidly in succession so that
the eye is fooled into perceiving
continuous motion.
PERSISTENCE OF
VISION

A phenomenon wherein
the human eye perceives
the continued presence of
an image after it has
disappeared from view.

TYPES OF ANIMATION
TYPES OF ANIMATION

• Traditional Animation – an animation

technique where each frame is drawn by hand. This type of
animation uses specialized materials and equipment for artists and
animators.

• Computer-Generated
Animation – an animation technique that is purely
digital and created primarily with computers. CG animators use
high-powered computers to create high quality animation.
TRADITIONAL
ANIMATION
Traditional animation is also called hand-drawing
animation, classical animation, or cel animation. It
consisted of drawing everything frame by frame, be it a
character, a background, and everything in between.
These drawings were made on sheets of transparent
paper and then photographed on an animation camera.
After that, the final photographs were used to create
movement in a two-dimensional space, animated on 12
frames per second (fps). Sometimes they were animated
on 24fps for smoother movements and faster action.
