A faithful God

(Hebrews 6:10-18)
(10) God is not unjust; he will
not forget your work and the
love you have shown him as
you have helped his people and
continue to help them. (11) We
want each of you to show this
same diligence to the very end,
in order to make your hope
(12) We do not want you to
become lazy, but to imitate those
who through faith and patience
inherit what has been promised.
(13) When God made his promise
to Abraham, since there was no
one greater for him to swear by,
he swore by himself,
(14) saying, "I will surely bless
you and give you many
descendants. 15 And so after
waiting patiently, Abraham
received what was promised.
(16) Men swear by someone
greater than themselves, and
the oath confirms what is said
and puts an end to all
argument.
(17) Because God wanted to
make the unchanging nature of
his purpose very clear to the
heirs of what was promised, he
confirmed it with an oath. (18)
God did this so that, by two
unchangeable things in which it
is impossible for God to lie, we
who have fled to take hold of
the hope offered to us may be
greatly encouraged.
*The world will let you down,
even family will let you down,
but God will never.

God is faithful; He will not

let you be tempted beyond
what you can bear.
(1 Corinthians 10:13)
God’s Faithfulness
illustrated:
To say that God is faithful is to say
that God is committed to you.
He is steadfastly devoted to you and
is looking to pull you out from under
the rubble of your life because He is
faithful, He protects you as well.
*God’s faithfulness is at the
core of His very nature

He is knowable, holy, the creator,

omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, just,
sovereign, unchanging, and loving because
He is faithful to His own character.
He never changes any of His attributes.
Paul drew on this truth when he wrote to
the Thessalonians, “the one who calls you
is faithful and He will do it.” I Thessalonians
5:24)
V.19 also tell us much about
God’s character:

God is not unjust (v.10)

His counsel is immutable (v.17)
It is impossible for God to lie (v.18)
Two Things to realize that God
is Faithful:
(1) He is a Fair God
*(v.10) God is not unjust; he will
not forget your work and the
love you have shown him as you
have helped his people and
continue to help them.
*God is not unfair: he will not
lose sight of all that you have
done.
Lk 6:38 "Give, and it will be given to you:
good measure, pressed down, shaken
together, and running over will be put into
your bosom. For with the same measure
that you use, it will be measured back to
you."

Lk.18:28 Peter said, "See, we have left all

and followed You." 29 So He said to them,
"Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who
has left house or parents or brothers or wife
or children, for the sake of the kingdom of
God, 30 "who shall not receive many times
more in this present time, and in the age to
come eternal life."
(2) He is a Trustworthy and
Reliable God

Benjamin Franklin said: “In

this world nothing is certain
but death and taxes!”
The same is also true of our
possessions and
relationships. We don’t
expect them to last
If God were like this then we would
never know where we stood.
One day He might answer our prayers
and the next He might zap us for
disturbing Him! We might try our best
to please Him all our lives then end up
in hell if He were in a bad mood.
This chapter shows God bending over
backwards, as it were, to reassure us
that He is not at all like that.
v17 tells us that God was
determined to show the heirs of
promise the immutability of His
counsel.
What does that mean? It means
that God wants us to understand
that He is not erratic or
capricious in His behavior or
decisions.
Isaiah 55:11 So shall My word be that
goes forth from My mouth; It shall not
return to Me void, But it shall
accomplish what I please, And it shall
prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

Nu 23:19 "God is not a man, that He

should lie, Nor a son of man, that He
should repent. Has He said, and will He
not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not
make it good?
God wants us to know that we can
trust Him.
To give us this confidence He comes
down to our level.
He made a promise to Abraham and
confirmed it by an oath which He
swore by Himself vv13-18.
He could have given Abraham, and us
too, no greater assurance for it rests
in the nature and character of God.
“God said it; I believe it; that settles
it!”
God’s promises
"Surely blessing I will bless you, and
multiplying I will multiply you." v14

God, determining to show more

abundantly to the heirs of promise the
immutability of His counsel,
confirmed it by an oath (v17)
We have a trustworthy and reliable God.
So let us learn to take Him at His word,
relying on His many promises and let us
Endeavour trustworthy and reliable God
So let us learn to take Him at His word,
relying on His many promises and let us
Endeavour, by His grace, to be reliable too
in our promises to serve , by His grace, to
be reliable too in our promises to serve
