Introduction
Refractory Materials
Refractory is a material that is resistant to decomposition
by heat pressure, or chemical attack and retains strength
and form at high temperature refectories are
polycrystalline, polyphose, inorganic, on metallic,
porous, and heterogeneous
Dolomite Based Refractory
• Dolomite is a type of lime stone that is high in
magnesium (CaCo3, MgCo3).
• Is calcium and magnesium double carbonate
(CaCo3,MgCo3).Its a key raw material in the iron and
steel, and fertilizer industries, among other industries.
• It can be found in nature
• Its mined In larger quantity
• The strong refractoriness of dolomite allows them to
withstand high temperature and stress of burning zone ,
as well as alkali decreasing environment corrosion
resistance and excellent cost ability.

Properties of Dolomite Refractory
• Dolomite bricks are porous, softer, and have a
lower strength than magnesia bricks .
• They can withstand temperature up to2300 c
without pressure as well as up to1650 c with
pressure.
Manufacturing Process of Dolomite
• There are two methods to produce refectory by using
dolomite and magnesite as materials one is fired in
rotary or shaft kilns up to dead burning temperature
of 1500-1800c ,the other is produced by electrical
smelting furnace with a temperature over 2500c
• With the use of silicate and wax, calcined dolomite
brick particles are joined. The mixture is then molded
into bricks, which are subsequently air dried and
charred roughly a day temperature ranging from 1200
to1560C to produce stabilized dolomite bricks .
Application of Dolomite
• Its mainly used in construction industry .its
pulverized and compressed for the use of
road ,cement and asphalt aggregates rail road ballast,
rip rap, and filler among other things.
• It’s also used to produce cement and its chised into
chiseled into specific size chunks known as
dimension stone.
• It’s used In chemical industries to neutralize acid, as
well as stream sortation project and as soil
conditioner
• Used as source of magnesia (MgO)
• Used as reservoir rock for oil and gas .

Chrome Based Refractory
• Chromite brick is made from fire clay containing
50% of chrome iron ore,30% iron oxide(ferrous
oxide )
• Refractory chromite deposits are spatially separated
and related to different lithologic association, which
crystalized from different parental magmas
• Chrome based refectories are typically used in
ceramic production kilns glass melting furnace and
lining of rotary kiln for manufacture of Portland
cement.

Dense chromium oxide: bricks are mainly used in severe
corrosion areas and glass fiber kilns or fiber glass furnace
, such that as throats , Melter side walls ,Melter bottom
dog house arc, dog house corner ,near bubblers ,ore
hearths and low bricks
Grain chromium bricks :have better thermal shack
properties and can be used in parts of glass fiber kiln, or
fiber glass furnace such as throats ,doghouse
corners ,flow bricks ,and high erosion part of certain
colored glass

Refractories Refractories
Chrome magnesite refectories :contains 15-
35%Cr2O3 and 42-50%Mgo.they are made in wide
range of qualities and are used for building the critical
part of high temperature furnace. These material can
withstand corrosive slags, and gases and have high
refectories.
Magnesite chrome refectories :contains at least
60%MgO and 8-18%CrO3.they are suitable for service
at the highest temperature and for contact with most
basic slags used in steel making .magnesite chromite
usually has better spelling resistance than chrome
magnesite.
Properties of Chrome Refectory
• Chromite suitable for refectory purpose is30-50%
Cr2O3,13-30%Al2O3,12-16%Fe2O3,14-20%MgO3-
6% SiO2 and up to1% CaO.
• High melting point up to 2180C (3960F)
• Moderate thermal expansion
• Neutral chemical behavior
• High corrosion resistance
• Enhances thermal shocks
• Slag resistant
• Volume stability
• High mechanical strength
Manufacturing of Chrome Refectory
In industries setting ,broadly speaking ,refectories are
made by either dry pressing ,casting or forming. The
latter of which has subclasses including by firing (one
method of refectory bricks) and chemical bonding. A
final method of manufacture is in to a monolith, which
is solid without finished from its form and shape are
given to it up on first application
Application of Chrome Refectory
• Used In severe corrosion and high thermal stress
areas of reinforcing fiber glass furnace and E-glass
furnace
• High chrome brick (Cr203>90%) is mainly used for
coal chemical industry, chemical industry
furnace. ,alkali freeglass fiber kiln ,waste incinerator
and other key parts the furnace.
