Parts of Motherboard

CPU Socket- Motherboards are subcategorized


by the type of processor socket they have. The
processor socket (also called a CPU socket) is
the connector on the motherboard that houses a
CPU.
Memory Slot- A memory slot, memory socket,
or RAM(random access memory) slot is what
allows computer memory to be inserted into the

PCI slot- use this slot for expansion cards or pci
devices such as modem, network card, and
sound card.
PCI Express slot- a slot where the video
card/graphics card with Pci-e model takes place.
USB headers- On motherboard is a pin
connection found on a computer motherboard
and USB connections to be added to the
computer.
Motherboard atx power connector- Is a 20+4
pin connector that connects power supply atx
power connector to give power source to the
motherboard.
4 pin auxiliary- is where 4pin power connector
connects to provide additional power(12V) to the
motherboard
CMOS battery- is short for Complementary
metal-oxide semiconductor CMOS is an on-
board battery powered semiconductor chip
inside computers that store information.
CMOS Holder- Is where cmos battery place.
IDE header- connect hardware peripherals with
a IDE interface using IDE cables going to the
motherboard.
Sata header- connect hard ware peripherals with
a sata interface using sata cables going to the
motherboard.

The Southbridge- is an integrated circuit on the
motherboard that is responsible for the hard
drive controller, I/O controller and integrated
hardware such as sound card, video card if
present on the motherboard, USB, PCI, IDE,
BIOS, and Ethernet.
Northbridge- Alternatively referred to
(PCI/AGP Controller) and sometimes
abbreviated as nb, the north bridge is an
integrated circuit that is responsible for
communications between the CPU interface,
AGP, and the memory.
USB port- is a standard cable connection
interface on personal computers and consumer
electronics. USB ports allow stand-alone
electronic devices to be connected via cables to a
computer.
PS2 port- is a port where mouse and keyboard
with a PS2 interface takes place.
VGA Port- The VGA port is used for connecting
a computer to a monitor.
• AUDIO JACKS- the audio is part of input/output for
desktop system unit this type of audio jacks is built in the
motherboard use for speakers ,headsets and microphones.

• GREEN- line out use for speakers/headsets
• PINK- mic in
