Communication occurs
between two or more
people : the ________

source of the

___________. receiver

What do we call these

two people?
It can be articulated
through _________
written or
spoken words.
It can also be expressed

Model
It is a pattern or framework that
we follow in order to fully create a

Three Models of
Communication
LINEAR
INTERACTIVE

TRANSACTIONAL
Linear Model
Linear Model
The sender transmits the message
to the receiver through a channel
in which the receiver has no way
of responding to the given
message.
Aristotle Model
Aristotle Model
It focuses on the speaker and the
message. Its importance is given
to the role of the speaker.
Shannon-Weaver Model
Shannon-Weaver Model
It has been called the "mother of
all models”
SENDER TRANSMITTER CHANNEL RECEPTION DESTINATION

NOISE
Interactive Model
Interactive Model
It is a process in which participants
alternate positions as sender and receiver
and generate meaning by sending
messages and receiving feedback within
physical and psychological contexts
Schramm Model
Schramm Model
is concerned with the concepts that
explain why communication
breakdown occurs. communication can
take place if and only if there is an
overlap between the speaker’s and the
listener’s fields of experience.

Transactional Model
Transactional Model
The transactional model of communication refers to the
continuous exchange of information where both the
sender and receiver are involved in the process and take
turns to communicate messages. ... The transaction
model is a two-way process and not a one-way linear
model of communication like other models of
communication.
Eugene White Model
Eugene White Model
It tells us that communication is
circular and continuous, without
a beginning nor end.
Thinking
a desire, feeling, or an emotion
that provides the speaker a
stimulus to
communicate
Symbolizing
before the speaker can utter
sounds, he/she has to know the
code of oral
language to represent ideas and
in order to make his/her selection
Expressing
the speaker then uses vocal
mechanism to produce the sounds
of language
accompanied by facial
expressions, gestures, or other
nonverbal cues
Transmitting
waves of sound spreading at 1,000
feet per second and waves of light
travelling at a speed of 186,000 miles
per second carry the speaker’s
message to the listeners
Receiving
sound waves impinge upon the listener’s ears
after which the resulting nerve
impulses reach the brainvia the auditory nerve;
light wave strikes the listener’s eyes after which
the resulting nerve impulses reach the brain via
the optic nerv
Decoding
the listener interprets the
language symbols he/she receives
and thinks further
Feedbacking
the listener may manifest overt or evident
behavior like a nod, smile, or yawn
or he/she may not show any behavior at all
(covert behavior like fast heartbeat, a poker
face,
etc.
Monitoring
while the speaker watches for signs of reception
or understanding of his/her
message among the listeners, he/she is also
attuned to what’s going on inside him/her; the
speaker is receiving, and decoding messages
about himself/herself from the audience in order
to adjust to the particular situation
Consolidated Test
Effective communication has always been the key to all
healthy relationships. But because of the COVID-19, many
individuals are working from home with little to no face-to-
face interaction with others. This pandemic really affects
our day-to-day life not only in terms of health, economy but
also our social life. As a student, how COVID-19 pandemic
changed the way you communicate? Is it possible that we
can still apply the functions of communication during this
time? Do you think communication plays a vital role in
today’s situation? Justify your answer.

Performance Task
Study and analyze the communication system
in your own family. Draw up a schema or a
diagram showing how communication process
takes place and identify the elements of
communication shown in your illustration. State
first the context/situation in your communication
before you draw your own schema.
Example:
CONTEXT/SITUATION:
STEVEN CONFESS HIS LOVE

ELEMENTS OF COMMUNICATION
USED:
SENDER: Steven
MESSAGE: I love you
ENCODE: Love letter
CHANNEL: Sense of sight
RECEIVER: ALI
