1-Principle 1 – Scattered light

 A laser diode directs a beam of modulated light (in the visible range) at
the dust particles in the gas flow. The light scattered by the particles is
recorded by a highly sensitive detector.
 The point of intersection between the transmitted beam and the
receiver aperture defines the measuring volume in the gas duct

1-Principle 2 Opacimeter
 The cross-stack, double-pass measuring system comprises a
transceiver and retro-reflector unit. The transceiver has a high
intensity source LED, which sends a beam of light through a diffuser
and onto a beam splitter. Half of the light is transmitted via a lens to
the retro-reflector unit. The light returned is focused on to a
measurement detector. The remaining light reflected by the beam
splitter is focused onto a reference detector. The opacity value is
calculated from the ratio of the two detected signals. The instrument
alternates between the measurement and flood LEDs every second to
eliminate drift and maintain accuracy.

1-Principle 3 Tribo-electric
 Whenever a dust particle hits an electrically loaded metal stick, which
has been placed across a flue gas duct, the charge of the metal stick is
changed. The more dust particles hitting the stick per time unit, the
more it influences the metal stick.
 The changes in the charging of the metal stick are an expression of the
dust concentration of the process.
