• Skills shortage
More than half of the positions listed on the
government's official "shortage employment list" are in
the creative industries. There is a huge skill gap as these
kinds off jobs particularly require a mix of technical
skills and creative skills.

• Funding
Due to lack of proper funding and financing, creative
industries aren’t able to grow and they fail, because of
lack of funding they also have to make significant cuts,
hence they aren’t able to take on new projects or other
creative risks.

• Digitization
The tremendous surge of digitalization has posed
ORGANISATIONAL institutions in the creative industries with enormous

while adhering to their goals and values. They must

political, and technical changes if they wish to succeed.
Creative struggle in Animonsta: a case study of the film and
animation sector
SUMMARY
Animonsta Studios is a Malaysian animation company founded by Anas Abdul Aziz and Mohd Nizam back in 2009. It produces creative
animated content for Malaysian and international market. Its product has been fairly successful in Malaysia as well as in international
market, distributing one of its products to broadcasters in over 44+ countries. Giant entertainment companies have outsourced their projects
such as Warner brothers, nicklodean etc. Malaysian animation company involve a secondary outsourcing role, creative content is often
provided by foreign client, local producers just produce it handling the technical aspect. Disruptive technologies have pushed the creative
industries to confront tough hurdles, especially in underdeveloped and developing nations. Even with an order to create an original content,
it is usually a co-project from overseas market.

 
CHALLENGES FACED BY THE
INDUSTRY
• Shortage of right talent- The talent pool for skilled workers
who can meet the rigorous standards of top-notch production
work is very tight. The talent pool is "top-heavy" with most
executives entering the field with strong technical production
skills rather than what the company really needs—those with
art skills, such as story writing and directing. This places
a d d i t i o n a l c o n s t r a i n t s o n t h e c o m p a n y. A s a r e s u l t , s u c h
businesses heavily rely on the international market for the
creative portions of their job.

• Funding constraints- The market for film & animation in


Malaysia is relatively small for the industry thrive, catering
to a population of 30 mil. Which is a hurdle in terms of fund
and revenue generation for the industry
