Other Benefits of Studying Sociology

Sociology is also useful in social and marketing


research , sports development, psychology, law,
human resource management, information science,
journalism, corporate communications, geography,
environmental management,and development studies.
( University of Johannesburg, 2007). The World Wide
Learn(2007) also identified numerous reasons why
studying sociology is important.
They are the following:

It assists one in recognizing trends and patterns in society.

It allows the development of critical thinking skills .

It encourages good research skills in data collection.

It instructs in creating concise eports and essays.


It develops planning and organizational skills.

It augments oral presentation skills and interpersonal communications.

It enhances management skills and writing ability.


Sociology in Relation to Other Sciences

Sociology as a field of study,belongs to social


science. Science refers to a body systemically
arranged knowledge that shows the operation of
general laws (Tischler,1996). Social sciences that
consist of aa these discipline that apply scientific
methods to the study of the society and human
behavior.

activities related to production, conumption, and
distribution of goods and services..

Political Science- it is the study of human


political struggle and the distribution of power in
the society, the information of political dynasties,
the role of the ethnic groups in any political
affairs.
Psychology- it is the study of human behavior.

Social Work- it is concerned with the atudy


of how to help individuals and families who
have emotional and psychological
problems.
