CHAPTER I BACKGROUND OF THE RESEARCH

Fatigue is a condition that is well known in everyday life. The term fatigue refers to the weakening
of energy to carry out an activity

According to the International Labor Organitation (ILO) 2.78 million workers die each year from work accidents
and work-related illnesses. About 86.3% of these deaths are due to occupational diseases, while 13.7% are due to
workplace accident.

Factors that can influence the occurrence of work fatigue vary, ranging from inadequate work
environment factors to psychosocial problems that can affect the occurrence of work fatigue.

The Sizing and Weaving Department has the potential for environmental hazards, one of which is a
hot environment that can cause heat stress that will be received by workers who work as additional
heat loads.

The results of the analysis of the relationship of work climate with fatigue showed there were 59.2% of
workers who experienced work fatigue. Based on the statistical test results obtained p value = 0.709, it can be
concluded that there is no significant relationship between work climate with work fatigue in the Sizing and
Weaving department of PT Trisula Textile Industries Tbk in 2019.

worked on the morning shift 60.6% were experiencing work fatigue. Based on the statistical test
results obtained p value = 0.830, it can be concluded that there is no significant relationship
between work shifts with work fatigue in the Sizing and Weaving Department of PT Trisula Textile
Industries Tbk in 2019.

Light load 0,003
9 34,6 17 65,4 26 100

Total
33 57,9 24 42,1 57 100

The results of the analysis of the relationship of workload with work fatigue as many as 77.7% of workers
with heavy workloads experience work fatigue. Statistical test results obtained p value = 0.003 it can be
concluded that there is a significant relationship between workload with work fatigue in the Department of
Sizing and Weaving of PT Trisula Textile Industries Tbk in 2019. Then from the analysis results obtained
PR = 2,237 means that workers experiencing heavy workloads 2, 3 times more at risk of experiencing
work fatigue compared to light workloads.
