DIFFERENT SPECIES OF

MANGROVE
FACTS ABOUT MANGROVE :
• There are 80 described species of mangroves, 60 of which live
exclusively on coast between the high- and low-tide lines.

• Base on our research and interview by some authorized person,the

toughest mangrove tree can almost grow 70 years and more.

• It provides home for several species of plants and animals.

• A protector to our coastline.

 ROLE :
• It protects vulnerable coastlines from wave action. Because it hold the
soil together and prevent coastal erosion.
• Mangroves shield inland areas during stroms and minimize damage.
• Mangroves provide valuable nursery areas for juvenile fish and
crustaceans. And are also important source of nutrients for the
adjacent marine ecosystem.
• Used to build some houses and other “bakhaw” products.
THE MYSTERY
Here in our town,in our “Mangrove Forest” or what we called DENR
there are only 24 species live. 20 of it described and 4 are not
discovered yet.
