BRANCHES OF

Zoology

MAT-BIO
ZOOGRAPHY
also known as Descriptive Zoology

• Study of animals and their respective habitats

• It is concerned with the biological description of
the animals and their habitat.
• Descriptive zoology or zoography describes or
sort the animal kingdom according to their habitat
and living structure.
-Research Journal of Zoology 2019
ANTHROZOOLOGY

• an interdisciplinary field that explores the spaces

that animals occupy in human social and cultural
worlds and the interactions humans have with
them. Central to this field is an exploration of the
ways in which animal lives intersect with human
cultures.
ARCHAEOZOOLOGY
• is the study of animal remains, mainly bones and
other hard parts, from archaeological sites. It
contributes to a more complete understanding of
various aspects of human life in the past.
ZOOTOMY
• the branch of zoology concerned with the
dissection and anatomy of animals.
ZOOARCHAEOLOGY
• a specialized branch of archaeology that examines
animal remains from archaeological sites.
• In contrast to zoology, the focus in zooarchaeology is
on animals as they relate to past human activity or
past human environments.
ARACHNOLOGY
• the study of the group of
animals called arachnids.
• Arachnids include spiders,
scorpions, harvestmen,
ticks and mites.
CETOLOGY
• (from Greek κῆτος, kētos,
"whale"; and -λογία, -logia)
or whalelore (also known
as whaleology)
• is the branch of marine
mammal science that
studies the approximately
eighty species of whales,
dolphins, and porpoise in
the scientific order
Cetacea.
ETHOLOGY
• the study of animal
behaviour.
• It is a discipline with long
traditions and one of few
non-medicine biological
disciplines that have
generated Nobel prizes.
• In ethology, both the
proximate and the ultimate
levels of animal behaviour
are being studied.
PRIMATOLOGY
• the study of the behavior, biology,
evolution, and taxonomy of nonhuman
primates.
• According to Roberto A. Delgado,
Jeanne Altmann, in
International Encyclopedia of the Soci
al & Behavioral Sciences (Second Edit
ion)
, 2015 began with anatomical
comparisons of nonhuman primates to
reconstruct the morphological
evolution of humans, and interest in
the behavioral similarities between
human and nonhuman primates can
be traced to Huxley’s (1863) assertion
of a phylogenetic relationship between
humans and African apes.
