PULL QUOTE is a quotation or excerpt from an article that is formatted in larger font size or distinctive font. SIDE BAR is a short story printed alongside the main story. DROP CAP is a letter that drops below the first few lines of a paragraph. Lesson 5: manipulating graphics GRAPHICS can be used to illustrate the ideas represented by the text and emphasize the main ideas of the document. SELECTION HANDLE is made up of a box that surrounds the selected object, eight resizing handles, and a rotation handle. Modifying the appearance of graphics involves the tasks of moving, resizing, rotating, copying, and cropping graphics. Two Techniques in Moving Selected Graphics
1. Dragging the Selected Graphic – it will allow you
to move the graphic to a location within the document.
2. Cut-and-Paste technique – it is used to move the
selected graphic to a location within the document, or to a location on another document or file. RESIZING GRAPHICS Graphics can be resized by dragging one of the resizing handles of the selected object or by specifying values for the Shape Height and Shape Width controls. The Shape Height and Shape Width controls are located in the Size Group. CROPPING PICTURES • FILL – the option that resizes the graphic to fill the picture area while maintaining the original aspect ratio. • FIT – the option that resizes the graphic to fit the picture area at the same time maintains the original aspect ratio.
