Using this PowerPoint

This PowerPoint allows you to quickly and easily cover the Australian Curriculum Year 2 Maths
objectives for fractions. Use for whole class warm up sessions to reinforce or review concepts
previously taught. Alternatively, consolidate the day’s learning by taking children through relevant
slides at the end of a lesson.

• The content descriptor covered in this PowerPoint starts with a page with details of what the
descriptor is.
• The descriptor is then followed by a child-friendly version, which you may choose to share with
the class.
• Next, is a slide of relevant vocabulary. Children can call out each word or symbol as you point
to it, helping to build mathematical language and familiarising students with the concepts they
are about to work through.

Each slide has a star level to indicate the level of difficulty. The slides can be worked through in
sequence to build progressively on the descriptor.

Strategies to use include:

• Simple reading out or chanting of information by the class (in or out of order.)
• Looking at visual information and calling out answers.
• True or false questioning activities (using thumbs up, thumbs down or true/false cards etc.)
• Asking and answering questions about the information displayed.
• Using mini whiteboards for written responses.
