INTRODUCTION
 Energy crisis – main problem
 Increased pollution and population
 Tremendous energy wasted in the form of heat.
 Need to reuse wasted energy.
Introduction
 In conventional power plants, like thermal power plants, nuclear power plants,
fuel is used to heat the water. Generally, coal is burnt in that process. After the
water starts boiling, and converted into steam, at high pressure, this steam is
used to rotate the turbine and hence mechanical energy is converted into
electric energy .
introduction
 The thermoelectric power generator is the solid state
device that provides direct energy conversion from
thermal energy into electrical Energy.

 Thermoelectric generator function like heat engine ,

but are less bulky and have no moving parts and
completely silent.
Working principle

 Thermoelectric generator is conversion of thermal energy into electrical

energy , the phenomenon is
Application

 For enhancing the fuel performance of cars, the TEG device is mostly
employed. These generators make use of heat that is generated at the time of
vehicle operation

 Seebeck Power Generation is utilized to provide power for the spacecraft.

 Thermoelectric generators to implemented provide power for the remote
stations such as weather systems, relay networks and etc.
Application
 Industrial processed waste heat reused to generate electricity

 Used as power sources in satellites ,spacecraft.

( Radioisotope thermoelectric
generator)
 Thermoelectric generator used in Automobiles

 Thermoelectric generator used in wristwatch

Advantages
 Reliability – Having no moving parts to break out makes them reliable.
 No Greenhouse Gases- does not require any greenhouse gases to operate .
 Scalability – design to output power levels smaller than microwatts
and larger than kilowatts.
 Operation under high and zero gravity forces – it can operate under
zero or high –Gravity conditions
 Direct energy conversion - TEG – heat to electricity .
 Recycle waste heat .
Disadvantages
 These are a bit expensive when compared to other kinds of generators.
 Thermoelectric generator have low thermal efficiency.
 It has limited number of application
