An article

magazine or journal
 is written for a wide audience, so it is essential to attract and retain the
readers’ attention
 can be formal or informal, depending on the target audience
 should be written in an interesting or engaging manner
 should give opinions and thoughts, as well as facts
Purpose :

-provide information -offer suggestion and advice
-persuade the reader -inspire

 ARE TEACHERS OVERRATED?

Do we need teachers at all in our lives? In the current internet age when vast knowledge is available instantly on our
fingertips, is the role of teachers redundant? In our culture, teachers enjoy the same status as parents and gods. Is such
a conception misplaced?
The teacher is the person who leads us from ignorance to knowledge. They shape our lives and future. They help us to
distinguish right from wrong. They show us the right path that leads us to success and happiness. Teacher’s role is not
just imparting of knowledge, which of course can be obtained through numerous sources. Only a teacher can help us
put that knowledge in a proper perspective and context and help us to use it in a manner most beneficial to the society.
There would be utter chaos and confusion if there were no teachers. Man, after all, is an animal. It is the teacher who
transforms that animal into a responsible and socially committed person. If there were no teachers, we would still
behave like animals with no sense of right and wrong. If there were no teachers, would human beings have achieved
the progress they have made? The answer is an emphatic ‘No’. Teachers enter our lives during our formative years.
The values and the knowledge that we gain from them, therefore, remain imprinted on our minds. As Dr. A.P.J Kalam
rightly said, “Teachers are the backbone of any country, the pillar upon which all aspirations are converted into
realities.” While our parents nurture us physically and emotionally, our teachers nourish us intellectually.
Teachers enable us to realize our true calling in life. Without them it is impossible to achieve success in life. We owe
them all that we achieve in life. The sooner we realize this, the better.

A title is absolutely necessary when writing an article, and should be a
concise summary of the information which is going to follow in the
article. In other words, the main topic of the article should be stated in
the title. Stimulating the reader’s interest is also essential - if the title
looks uninteresting, why would anyone read it?
