Scientific Method
• A pattern or body of techniques used to
investigate a phenomenon, acquire new
knowledge or correct and integrate
previous knowledge.
Components of Scientific Investigation

1.Observing and Identifying the problem

2.Gathering Preliminary Data
3. Formulation of Hypothesis
Hypothesis-investigative tool that helps clarify
ideas and state relationships so they can be tested
4. Experimentation
A stage where hypothesis is tested
Experiment-is a series of activities done to answer a question or solve a
problem.
Independent Variable- manipulated variable
Dependent Variable- responding variable
5. Analysis of Data
• Analysis and Interpretation of Data gathered from the experiment allow
the researchers to list the findings of their study.
-Table
-Graph-a visual display of information or data
-different graphs can be used like line, bar, and circle
6. Drawing Generalization

• Based on the findings of the experiment, the

researchers draw a generalization about the
problem they are investigating.
7. Writing the Research Report

• After completing the study, the writing of the research

report follows so that others can read the work that was
conducted. Once the research report is written, the
summary of the study must be prepared. The summary
is called the abstract, which is composed of 150 to 250
